John Young Furnishings, Keswick

A Lake District furniture shop is set to close after 134 years in business.

John Young Furnishings, in Keswick, will close later this month.

The furniture and antiques store has been holding a sale since owner John Young announced his retirement in February.

He announced that the shop will close its doors for the final time on Saturday, May 11.

When he announced his retirement, Mr Young said: “It was an extremely difficult decision to make. My family has had a shop in Keswick for over a century and it is even harder when you have such a great team working with you in the business.

“I don’t have any heirs and I’d like to spend more time on other interests with my partner Clare, and now feels like the right time to close.”

This week, he said: “Throughout this whole process, the team have been fantastic, and I would like to reiterate my thanks and appreciation to Liz Weightman our shop manager and to our sales consultants Ian Bird and Adele McEwan.

“They have worked very hard to make sure orders have been fulfilled and that the shop looks its best at all times.”

“Finally, we would like to thank all our loyal customers for their generations of support. It has been a pleasure getting to know so many lovely people and to be involved in helping furnish their homes.
