Veteran cyclist Gerard McCarten has completed his ride to scale the highest mountain in each of Scotland, Wales, Ireland and England.
The 85-year-old, from Hensingham, conquered the peaks from outside his home on Balmoral Road inside 72 hours.
The combined height of the four peaks is 4,446 metres (14,583ft) and Gerard travelled no further than 50 metres from his front door, using the incline to complete his epic ride.
After he finished Gerard told the Cumbria Crack: “At the finish I was tired, delighted and relieved. Actually day two was the worst. I pulled-up at the end of thew third hours intending to complete four hours inn the saddle but was tired.
“On the third and last day I had to do at least five hours but knew I needed to split it into smaller sessions so I did five one hour sessions with an hours rest in between. I finally pot through it at 8pm.

“It worked out I did 760 circuits (outside the house), had a height gain of 4464 metres, travelled 127km at an average speed of 9.9km/hour and it took 12 hours 49 minutes 59 seconds. Phew.”
Gerard was aiming to raise awareness of the Asthma + Lung UK campaign for funding research into bronchiectasis. World Bronchiectasis Day was followed on 4/5/6 July by the World Bronchiectasis Conference in Dundee, Scotland.
According to Asthma + Lung UK one in five people will have a lung condition during their lifetime.
Gerard said his wife Margaret had been a long time bronchiectasis sufferer before her death in October 2023, hence his desire to raise awareness about this little-known condition of the lungs.
He launched a Justgiving page with a target of £500 but that had passed £600 when he completed the ride, and there have been other donations of £200.
