Whitehaven rugby league club have had reinforcements in their battle to fend off increasing financial concerns.
Today the club announced that former directors Dennis Bullock, Terry Barry, Gary Eilbeck, Barry Morgan, Dave Pennington and Grant Taylor have returned to the club’s board of directors with long term supporter and volunteer Tommy Johnson also joining.
All previous members had stepped down in recent times for a variety of reasons but with the recent statement from interim CEO Les Messenger last week revealing financial issues with the club the group have come together to attempt to steer the club through this period.
Messenger asked for financial help as the club was in dire straits.
Acting as the interim CEO he was the only director alongside Alan Charlton and he admitted the club owed £8,000 to the taxman and £14,000 to the players.
The club is hoping for a four figure crowd tomorrow when they take on Doncaster in the Championship.
But coach Jonty Gorley is only able to name a 16-strong squad for the game which is: Ross Ainley, Sam Campbell, Lucas Castle, Rio Corkill, Lachlan Hanneghan, Ben Hursey, Ryan King, Jake Maizen, Owen McCarron, James Newton, Joey Romeo, Callum Shaw, Perry Singleton, Curtis Teare, Mac Walsh, Huw Worthington.
