Cockermouth’s senior sports clubs are getting together for a special event at Sandair on Sunday.
Players from Deer Orchard FC, Cockermouth FC, Keswick Hockey Club, who are based in the town, Cockermouth Titans RLFC and hosts Cockermouth Cricket Club will take part in a special cricket tournament.
Action starts at 12 noon when teams of ten players will play two games during the course of the day, and hopefully if the light holds and the weather stays fine, there will be a final between the two most successful sides.
They will be 10-overs a side with everyone expected to bowl one over and for those keen to follow the action the bar will be open all day.
Organisers will hold a raffle, sell football cards and when it’s all over there will be entertainment in the Sandair pavilion.
All proceeds are to be donated to the Deer Orchard club who recently started an online appeal to help them obtain a new changing room unit.
It is to be closed shortly having reached its target of £2,000. It currently stands at £2,223.
With other upgrades needed in 12 months Orchard will benefit from this latest sporting event in the town.
Deer Orchard are probably the longest-established Sunday League team in the country – still functioning without any breaks after 62 years.
