The West Cumberland Sunday League promises to be really open this season after another top team suffered a defeat.

Parkside, runners up last season and winners of the Sunday County Cup, were beaten in their Premier Division clash at Sun Inn.

The Aspatria side won 5-3 with goals from Shae Johnston (2), Mally Graham, Shaun Smith and Louie Elliot. Parkside replied through Darren Little, Kyran Smith and Kieran Maguire.

Northside had lost in mid-week at Dearham but they bounced back with a 4-0 win against Moresby Rangers as Steffan Scott enjoyed himself with a hat-trick and Harry Watson was also on target.

Deer Orchard had started the season well but lost their unbeaten record to Parkside. However the Cockermouth side were back in winning ways at Lowca Pirates as they went home with a 3-1 win.

After a goal-less first-half Orchard scored three times through Jayden Fulton (2) and an own goal. Daniel McConvey netted for the Pirates.

It means the only unbeaten side in the Premier Division are Dearham Commercial who beat Bluebell 6-1 on Sunday to make it four wins in four.

Danny Dryden (4) and Jack Dunstan (2) scored the Dearham goals with Carl Denvir responding for the Workington side.

The only unbeaten side in Division One are the Zebras after they beat Royal Oak 3-0 with goals from Scott Underwood (2) and Regan Tinnion.

King’s Arms lead the way, however, a point clear of Zebras, but from two more games.

Their latest success was a 4-2 win at Borough Miners as Kieran Fraser was their hat-trick hero while Luke Elliot also netted. Dan Graham scored both for Borough.

Thornhill and Senhouse Street are now level in the table – played five and nine points – after the Egremont side came out on top in a seven-goal thriller by 4-3.

Dan Wilkins, Nathan Dryden, Lewis Selkirk and Luke Youdale scored the Thornhill goals.

Gary O’Driscoll (2) and Ryan Moore scored for Senhouse Street who still lead their conquerors in the table, but only by goal difference.

In the battle of the Suns it was The Sun who came out on top against Sun Inn Athletic 2-0 with Hayden Whittingham netting both goals.

In the other game Whitehaven Development won 4-1 at Swan with yet another hat-trick star in Joe Carney. Daniel Hildred netted the fourth with Aaron Porthouse notching for Swan.

Sunday’s fixtures

Premier Division – Dearham Commercial v Moresby Rangers; Deer Orchard v Bluebell; Butchers v Lowca Pirates; Parkside v Northside.

First Division – Senhouse Street v The Sun; Sun Inn Athletic v Royal Oak; Swan v Thornhill; Whitehaven Development v King’s Arms; Zebras v Salterbeck.
