It came late in the game – two minutes from the end – but Dav Symington’s goal to cap a 3-1 home win over Whitby on Saturday, was that extra bit special.
His typical strike from the edge of the area which found the bottom corner and left the keeper flat-footed was the 100th in competitive games for the Reds.
That ton has been achieved in eight years with the club, in which he recorded his best tally last season of 26.
Saturday’s strike was his fourth of the season and the Workington captain is clearly still a potent threat for the Reds. His last three goals to take him to three figures have come in the last three games – Matlock, Bamber Bridge and Whitby.
Breaking down the figures Symington has scored 64 of his ton at Borough Park with 36 on opposition grounds and has scored against 50 different teams. He has netted three hat-tricks so far.
Workington-born Symington, now 30, played 68 senior games for Carlisle United between 2012 and 2015, scoring four times.
Towards the end of that stay with Carlisle he was loaned to Workington but suffered a serious knee injury on his debut.
He then had 20 games for Barrow before joining the Reds in 2016 where he has now reached a significant milestone with his 100th goal.
