Kendal Town are up to seventh in the Northern League table after a 3-1 home win over Easington Colliery.
After two successive defeats to Whitley Bay in the League and to Horden Community Welfare in the Vase, needed to get back to winning ways do this was an important result for the Mintcakes.
They are now the leading Cumbrian side in the First Division and are followed by Carlisle City (9th) and Penrith (13th) although two points covers the three of them.
Mike Flynn thought he had given Kendal the lead on 12 minutes when he headed into the net at the far post but the flag was up for offside.
Two minutes later Easington were close when Stanley came to the Mintcakes’ rescue with a clearance off the line.
Generally the first half an hour had been pretty even but fairly uneventful but on 33 minutes that changed. A great ball from Josh Winder found Steve Yawson and he went round the keeper before slotting home.
Flynn, close to a goal early on but denied by a linesman’s flag, thought he’d doubled the Kendal lead on 38 minutes with another header which was cleared off the line.
In a fast start to the second-half Ryan Winder thumped an effort against the Easington bar but on 50 minutes came the second goal. A cross from Bailey Kenny was turned past his own keeper by Dylan Elliott.
Four minutes later Kendal struck again. This time it was James Bailey who was on the end of a pinpoint pass from Josh Winder and he finished calmly.
Matt Dudley had two efforts which were just off target and it was Easington who scored the final goal on 81 minutes when Elliott had the distinction of scoring for both sides when he turned in a low cross beyond Chris Cheetham.
The visitors had two good chances before the finish but finished poorly and Kendal were able to see it through for three important points.
Jimmy Marshall’s men have another home game on Saturday when they entertain Shildon, who are only a point behind them.
