A South Cumbrian social and snooker club is throwing open its doors for pensioners to keep warm and have some company this autumn and winter.
The Albion Social & Snooker Club in Kendal will be open from 12.15pm to 5pm Wednesdays to Sundays and has invited pensioners in to its TV lounge area to play games, watch TV and have a catch-up.
No guest fees apply and hot drinks, including Bovril, will be £1 or £1.50 for soup, hot chocolate or a latte.
The club, on Sandes Avenue, said: “There will be dominoes, cards, cribbage, darts or the TV to watch and there will also be free biscuits available.
“Many kind people have offered to send or give the club money to help with this but I don’t want to take money. If anyone wants to help in anyway, by all means feel free to bring in some biscuits, hot chocolate powder or coffee etc.”
People are reminded that there is only enough room for around 25 people in the lounge area – and the club will have to turn people away if full for safety reasons.
The club and all its other facilities will remain open as usual.
