Iain Wood appointed as CEO of Barrow

Barrow have announced that sporting director Iain Wood has been appointed chief executive officer with immediate effect.

Wood will combine his existing responsibilities with those of the non-playing side at the club.

It means that Alisha Henry, the club’s chief operating officer, and her team will report to Wood, who will join Barrow’s board of directors.

Club chairman Paul Hornby said: “Iain joined us in July 2022 as sporting director and has transformed our playing side into a much more professional and contemporary organisation.

“His recruitment success is well documented, but his enthusiasm, energy, and knowledge have moved the club forward in many other ways.

“We see this as a natural progression for both Iain and ourselves as we move forward with our ambitious future plans for the club.”

Ir’s only last week that the Football Insider website suggested that Wood was in line to take on the new sporting director role at Carlisle United. It was a report that was quickly dismissed by Wood and the Barrow club.

Reflecting on his time at Barrow, Wood said: “It’s been a really enjoyable, yet challenging few years, and we still have so many opportunities ahead of us.

“Creating this role will enable us to be more aligned and co-ordinated with everybody in our pursuit of success both on and off the field. I’m fully aligned with the board’s vision and ambition, and I’m committed to driving Barrow AFC forward to future success.”
