Barrow’s extra time disappointment against Colchester United

It’s regularly becoming part of the script for Barrow – they drop points by conceding a stoppage time goal.

This time it was Colchester United who salvaged a 1-1 draw at Holker Street with a goal from Lyle Taylor in the second minute of time added on.

The only difference to similar recent occurrences against Notts County and Bromley was that this one wasn’t a penalty.

On this occasion the experienced Taylor was there on the spot to convert a pass from Sam Tovide and leave Barrow without a League win in five games.

It was Barrow goalkeeper Wyll Stanway who was forced into making the first save of the game when he kept out a good effort from John-Kymani Gordon early on.

But at the other end both Dom Telford and Kian Spence both missed good chances to have put the Bluebirds in the box seat.

It was Elliot Newby who came up with the first goal after 31 minutes when he volleyed home a cross from Neo Eccleston.

The best effort Barrow managed after that came soon into the second-half when a good effort from Connor Mahoney was well saved by U’s keeper Matt Macey.

Stanway wasn’t a spectator because he also had to be alert to keep out a shot from Harry Anderson which seemed to be sneaking in at his near post.

But there was nothing he could do about the late effort from Taylor which left Barrow frustrated again.
