Films screenings are returning to Cockermouth’s Kirkgate Centre following a major revamp.
The centre’s main auditorium has been out of action for several weeks while a major refurbishment of the venue’s lighting and heating systems has been carried out.
Now, with all the improvement work complete, the films programme will return next month on Friday April 4, with a line-up of big names and Oscar-winning movies on the horizon.
Kirkgate Chief Executive Emma Heys said: “We’re delighted that we’re ready to welcome people back to our main auditorium after several weeks of closure and we’re sure that people will appreciate the improvements we’ve been able to make to its lighting and heating systems.”
Chris Gore, who leads the Kirkgate film programming team, added: “Normally when we schedule films, we like to be adventurous and pick a film or two which might be a little risky at the box office.
“However, the awards season, from Golden Globes to the Oscars, provides such a great choice of films that we hope will appeal widely to our audience, especially when combined with box office hits such as Bridget Jones and Paddington.
“Together, they provide a perfect opportunity to showcase the fact that the Kirkgate is back showing films three times a week.”
Films set to be shown in April and May include Bridget Jones Mad About The Boy and Paddington in Peru.
Hollywood award-winners Conclave, A Real Pain, A Complete Unknown and I’m Still Here will also be shown.
