The annual Tony Barnett Memorial Trophy is to be staged tomorrow.
The match is a fitting tribute to honour the memory of one of Cumberland football’s most dedicated figures.
This special fixture sees the Premier Division champions of the Cumberland County League go head-to-head with the Premier Division winners of the West Cumberland Sunday League.
It’s a commemorative play-off to celebrate the legacy of Tony.
All proceeds from the gate, alongside donations from the Cumberland FA and both participating leagues, will be donated to a charity chosen by Tony’s family.
Tony was a respected and much-loved member of the local football community.
He dedicated many years to supporting grassroots football across the county, serving as a committee member with the Egremont and District Sunday League, which later merged with the Workington & District Sunday League to form the West Cumberland Sunday League.
Tony also acted as club secretary for St Bees, who competed in the county league for many seasons.
This year’s game between Maryport Athletic and Deer Orchard will be played at the Fibrus Community Stadium in Workington. Kick-off is 7pm.
Entry is £3 on the gate and food and drink will be available.
