Senor and Sir Robert with Janie McAuley, Grace Napier and Malcolm Holmes

The Carlisle and Penrith Area held a four-grade meeting at Calebreak where 64 hounds turned out on the night.

The weather was forecast to be dry and the seniors were first to the slip with a field of 13.

Sportsman for Willie and Craig Mark was sent off as the favourite.

The hounds aren’t seen much as they progress around the course but as they were slipped Sportsman went out well ahead of Embrace for Laura Steele, Andrew and Joel Bulman, and Ian Rumney with litter mate Hey Mac for Neil and Gillian Brown, and Joel and Derrick Bulman in close attendance.

As they showed over the top of the finish six had broken clear, with Sportsman leading the way from Embrace and Hey Mac with Croft Lass for Stanley, Carole, and Sarah Jackson, David Loan, Ricky Deacon and Donald Hodgson in fourth and kennel mates Foxparke Beep Beep and Foxparke Fairlady for Robyn, Ellie, Grace and Nicola Napier and Brooke Butler occupying the other ticket positions.

As the hounds began to drop down the fell and out of sight Embrace and Sportsman emerged with an advantage over the chasing hound which was Croft Lass.

As they approached the finish line it was a good race between the pair but Sportsman got the win by a head from Embrace with Croft Lass in third.

Hey Mac was fourth and kennel mates Foxparke Fairlady and Foxparke Beep Beep were fifth and sixth.

The open pups had an entry of 12 and the weather had taken a turn for the worse with the mist beginning to cover the top of the fell and with it came the rain.

Delta Fortune for Sarah and Baz Harper and Hartley Robinson was sent off as the favourite.

Sarah Harper with Delta Fortune

As they climbed up the fell Delta Fortune was leading the way with Foxparke Rita’s Rose for Robyn, Ellie, Grace and Nicola Napier, Brooke Butler and Darren Clark and a gap to the chasing hounds who were being led by Brown Sugar for Graham and Les Reid, and Ellie Napier.

As they appeared out of the mist on the fell Delta Fortune and Brown Sugar had developed a lead and both hounds kept swapping at the front as they dropped down.

When they showed out of the final dip Delta Fortune pulled away slightly and finished well to claim his 21st win of the season with Brown Sugar in second.

There was a small gap to the chasing pack of five which was led by Busy Rascal for Alan Blacklock and Carole Harrison who claimed third ahead of Chapel Lad for Ian Fleet, Jayne Petersen, and Oliver, Eleanor and Liam Chisholm.

Denton Phantom for Lee, Hayley, George and Joey Wall was fifth with his litter mate Foxparke Rita’s Rose taking the last ticket.

The open maidens were next with a field of 25 and the weather had worsened by the time they had slipped.

Sir Robert for Malcolm Holmes was sent off as the favourite.

As they were slipped the mist had come further down the fell and the hounds were unable to be spotted as they climbed up.

When they showed out of the mist on the finish it was a great race with a line of dogs all coming together.

As they came out of the last dip onto the finish Senor for Malcolm Holmes managed to hold on for the win with his father and kennel mate Sir Robert in second and fast finishing Inspect for Anna and Kerry Lindsay, and Emmie McAulay in third.

We Get By for Sarah White was in fourth and Foxparke Elliot’s Lad for Robyn, Ellie, Grace and Nicola Napier and Brooke Butler took fifth. The final ticket went to Delta Scribble for Sarah and Baz Harper and Hartley Robinson.

The final race of the evening was the open restricted with a field of 14.

Summer Spirit for Willie and Craig Mark was sent off as the favourite after her win at the weekend.

Christine Brownlee with Malia

The weather had deteriorated even more as the hounds came out of the mist onto the finish but Malia for Christine Brownlee and Huntsman’s Sparkle for Carolyn, Tracey and Derrick Hill had developed a lead on the chasing pack as they came out of the final dip.

Onto the finish Malia finished well to claim the win ahead of Millie’s Lad for George McGimpsy, and Gillian and Millie Telford with Malfunction for Sarah White in third.

Huntsman’s Sparkle had faded into fourth and the favourite Summer Spirit was next. The final ticket went to Overwater Eddie for James Irving.
