Barriers will be erected in Carlisle city centre today to stop vehicles accessing the newly revamped Greenmarket.
Although bollards are in place to stop vehicles driving on to the pedestrianised area, Cumberland Council said its officers had noticed people trying to drive around them to collect parcels or park in the city centre.
In a social media post, the council said: “While it might seem like a clever shortcut (and yes, your sneaky ninja moves might earn you gold in the Parcel Olympics), it’s actually not safe and not allowed.
“The city centre is a pedestrianised area, which means no vehicles. Please don’t attempt to squeeze through any gaps in the bollards, it’s dangerous and could easily lead to an accident.”
The authority said it would be installing the heavy duty Rhino barriers today near the Crown and Mitre Hotel, to prevent vehicles from driving onto the pavement and into the pedestrianised area.
It asked if anyone spotted any vehicles entering the pedestrian area, to report it at https://bit.ly/ReportAProblemCumberland or call the Highways Hotline on 0300 373 3736.
