Workington Town have taken their squad to 21 players with the retention of Callum Phillips, who returned to the club from Whitehaven last season.
Head coach Jonty Gorley said it was a major re-signing by the club.
Gorley said: “’When Callum signed for us last season we were both a bit apprehensive regarding his injury that kept him out for well over 12 months.
“I backed him 100% and Callum being Callum, one of the fittest, most dedicated players I’ve ever coached, did the ‘Callum thing’ and gave himself the best possible chance to play at this level again.
“By the end of the season he was one of my top performers. He’s extremely strong, and defensively he brings a solid, hard hitting and relentlessly high work rate and leads from the front.
“Callum is a natural leader with high standards and doesn’t let anyone cut corners at training, so it’s great to have him go round again.
“Ultimately, he deserves huge credit for getting fit and I’m really pleased for him.”
The 33-year-old, who has represented Scotland six times, made 11 appearances for Town last season to go with the 112 he made during his first spell which started in 2013.
He scored 24 tries.
In between, he played 83 times for Whitehaven and scored 34 tries.
