A woman challenged a male intruder who had broken into her house in the early hours.

The man entered the property on Undergreens Road in Barrow at around 6.10am today via a conservatory at the rear of the address.

The householder was quick to challenge the man. Following a brief verbal exchange, he calmly left through the conservatory.

Cumbria police said no property was stolen but the circumstances suggest that it was the likely intention.

CID and crime scene investigation officers attended the address. Police said the victim was shaken by the event and offered support.

The suspect is described as of an average height, believed to be about 5ft 10ins, of a slim to medium build, spoke with a local accent which sounded as though they were 20 to 30 years old, he was wearing a large, puffy-style coat, which was black or very dark in colour.

Enquiries have begun in the local area, police said. Officers are appealing to residents and people who were in the area between 5.30am and 6.30am, who could have seen the man or any suspicious activity to make contact.

Anyone with information, dashcam or doorbell footage that may assist the investigation is asked to contact police on 101 quoting incident number CP-20251201-0017 or report online via https://www.cumbria.police.uk/report-it
