Dog rescued after falling 15ft down Lake District mine shaft

A dog had to be rescued when he fell 15ft down a mine shaft in the Lake District.

Coniston Mountain Rescue Team was alerted by Cumbria police yesterday, Saturday December 20 at around 11.50am.

The dog had got into difficulty at Red Dell.

The team said: “Two vehicles were deployed and team members met up with the family party.

“A rope system was set up and the dog was recovered 15ft down and put in a harness.

“He was brought up to the surface safely and uninjured, and very happy to be reunited with his owner.”

Ten members attended this incident which took 3 hours.
