Setback for Holker Old Boys

Holker Old Boys suffered a setback in their efforts to reach the play-offs in the NW Counties Division One North with a 3-1 defeat at Nelson.

They had actually taken the lead on 19 minutes with a goal from Charlie McGladdery but the hosts levelled just before half-time through Max Cane.

It stayed that way through most of the second-half before two late goals earned Nelson all of the points.

Alex Green nosed them ahead on 84 minutes and in the first minute of added time Cane grabbed his second goal to secure the victory.

That defeat dropped Holker to 12th but still just four points off the play-offs with several games in hand of most teams ahead of them.

In the West Lancashire League only Millom played among the four Cumbrian participants in the Premier Division.

It was a tough ask after having their last three games postponed as they went to third-in-the-table Haslingden St. Mary’s and lost 5-2.

The damage was done in the last 15 minutes of the first half when St. Mary’s scored four times through Charlie Ridge (2), Luke Austin and Alfie Edmondson.

Oliver Pachul gave Millom hope by scoring five minutes into the second-half but Ridge completed his hat-trick 15 minutes later and Danny Pattinson’s goal for Millom (70) was merely a final statistical note.

The derby game between Milnthorpe Corinthians and Whitehaven as well as Cleator Moor Celtic’s trip to Blackpool Wren Rovers were both postponed.
