Hensingham’s successful head coach Kris Coward has stepped down after two years in the role.
Coward, the former Workington Town and Whitehaven forward, had led Hensingham to promotion from the National Conference Third Division and then last season took them to the Division Two play-offs.
He had joined the coaching team at the club under former coach Jesse Joe Parker before taking on the top role himself.
Coward has been a regular on Cumbria Crack with his thoughts on Hensingham’s performances over the last two years.
He has explained to Crack his reasons for quitting when he had hoped to be in charge for another two years.
A combination of work and family commitments, along with a certain disillusionment with the way the RFL has taken over the Conference and subsequent formation of a new Cumbria regionalised Division.
Here’s what Coward had to say:
The Hensingham club said: “Kris has made the difficult decision to step down as head coach.
“We cannot thank Kris enough, along with Chris Crowe, for the work they have put in over the last couple of year taking us to our 1st ever NCL promotion & 80 minutes away from NCL Div 1.”
The club is inviting applications for the role. Anyone interested should email Steve Dougan at [email protected]. The closing date is January 7.
