A man has been arrested after over 10kg of cocaine was found in a car boot by police on the M6.
Mark McAvoy, 39, of Millarston Avenue, Paisley, was driving northbound between junctions 39 and 40 near Shap yesterday, December 31, when police stopped his car – a Vauxhall Insignia.
The officer carried out a search and found a cardboard box in the boot.
Upon opening it, he found 10 wrapped bricks of between 1.1kg AND 1.2kg of what preliminary tests indicated to be cocaine.
Two further bags of suspected cocaine were also recovered, giving a total of more than 11-and-a-half KG of cocaine.
A brown powder was also recovered, which tests indicated to be 37g of heroin.
McAvoy was arrested and subsequently charged with two counts of possession with intent to supply class A drugs – one count for cocaine and the other for heroin.
He appeared before Barrow Magistrates’ Court today and was remanded to appear before Carlisle Crown Court on January 30.
