Workington Victoria staged the final show in the club’s winter programme – and had a bumper entry.
It was their show race for Marlborough and attracted 95 entries, including several birds that had won over the series of shows organised by both Victoria and Flimby HS.
Ernie McCance was the man chosen to judge and after casting his eyes over a high-class entry he picked out a chequer hen, entered by the Cleator Moor loft of Dobson, sons, grandson and Lyle as the winner.
He gave tickets as follows: 1, 8, Dobson, sons, grandson and Lyle; 2, 3, M. and L. Cape; 4, Fitzsimmons and son; 5, Bromley and co; 6, Williams and Hadfield; 7, McLuckie bros.
It means there will be £300 to fly for at the old bird race from Marlborough next season.
