Former Workington Reds winger on move to Portsmouth

Millenic Alli

Former Workington loanee Millenic Alli is on the move in the January transfer window with Portsmouth completing a loan deal with Luton..

The 25-year-old had two spells with Reds and although only a brief stay was a popular player with the fans, a clever, fast raiding winger.

That was in 2019 and again in 2020 and Alli, on loan from South Shields, scored four times in nine outings.

He then moved to Ashton United, had a brief stay at Stockport without laying a senior game but spent time on loans with Chorley but had his most productive spell with FC Halifax when he made 54 appearances, scoring 16 goals.

That attracted the attention Exeter City, who labelled him at the signing as one of non-league’s hottest talents.

He went on to score 13 time for the Grecians in 35 appearances and then a year ago he was sold to Luton Town for a reported £1.5 million.

Now it seems that Portsmouth, struggling just above the Championship drop zone, have got Alli on loan for the rest of the season.

Dublin-born Alli had had to spend his early months at Luton starting on the bench but in the final four Championship, he scored four goals.

it was not enough to see Luton remain in the division, with relegation confirmed on the final day of the season with defeat to West Brom.

Alli started the 2025-26 season an important starter under former manager Matt Bloomfield, but since he has been replaced in the Kenilworth Road dugout by ex-England international Jack Wilshere, he has featured just four times in league action.
