A new National Lottery-funded programme of free guided walks has launched in Cumbria, giving local people the chance to enjoy the countryside with expert support.
The programme will be delivered by Guided Outdoor Adventuring CIC in partnership with Guided Outdoor Adventures and is led locally by qualified mountain leader Mark Eddy at Sizergh Castle.
It is designed to tackle what founder Julia Hartley calls the confidence gap – a lack of confidence that stops many people from accessing the outdoors.
The initiative is aimed at people over 50, beginners, and those returning to activity after illness, injury or isolation.
Julia said: “Many people want to walk locally but don’t feel safe or confident doing it alone.
“This funding allows us to provide professional guides and supportive groups so people can enjoy the outdoors with reassurance.”
The programme is funded by the National Lottery Community Fund and Sport England’s Movement Fund. All walks are free to attend.
