It’s been a baptism of fire for new Whitehaven manager Brian Dawson since taking over in the new year.
His first game in charge of the struggling West Lancashire League team was against third in the table Haslingden St Mary’s which they lost 4-0.
Now they are preparing to entertain the League leaders Eagley who have won 16 of their 19 games so far, drawn two and only lost once.
Dawson will have a new face in the line-up, completing the transfer from Cleator Moor Celtic of forward Malachi Norford.
Celtic continue their run of home games with a visit from Poulton and Gareth Agnew’s men will be looking to make amends for last week’s somewhat surprise 4-2 defeat to Astley and Buckshaw United.
Agnew has 20 to pick from and the four who miss out will play for the Reserves in the Cumberland County League.
Millom produced the best performance of last week when they beat second-in-the-table Lostock St Gerard’s.
Now sitting ninth in the table the south Cumbrians will travel to Rossendale, who are three places and five points behind them, and who have played two more games.
Milnthorpe Corinthians are without a game this weekend.
In the North West Counties Holker Old Boys continue their battle to make the play-offs when they travel to Thornton Cleveley’s who lie second in the Division One North table.
But Holker, currently 11th, will take heart that they are only six points shy of their hosts and have five games in hand.
Disappointingly Holker could only draw in mid-week, needing a late equaliser against Daisy Hill.
In the Wearside League, Windscale’s game away to Barnard Castle has been called off due to a waterlogged pitch.
