Chris Taylor, Whitehaven’s experienced centre, is to miss the whole of the new season with a shoulder problem.
Following liaising between the club’s medical personnel and specialists, a decision has been made for him to miss out this year to focus on rehabilitation with the aim of returning for the 2027 season.
The 32-year-old has made close to 200 appearances for the club in three different spells after his initial loan spell and scored over 50 tries.
A product of Wigan Warriors Academy, Taylor joined Haven on loan for the 2014 season before a move to Halifax ahead of the 2015 season.
Released by Wigan he went back to the Recreation Ground midway through that season and remained with the club until the end of the 2023 campaign.
Whitehaven supporters have sent numerous messages of good wishes via the club’s social media for a player who enjoyed a testimonial at the Ortus Rec and is very popular.
The club said: “We will continue to support him on his rehab with all at the club wishing him well with his recovery.”

Meanwhile Whitehaven have confirmed that Seaton Rangers hooker Liam Williamson has joined the club on a deal until the end of the 2026 season ahead of Sunday’s Championship clash against Newcastle Thunder.
Liam has been training with the club throughout pre-season and has already seen competitive action in the Challenge Cup in Seaton’s meeting with Thatto Heath in round one.
Neil Frazer, Whitehaven’s assistant coach has been Williamson’s coach at Seaton and is a big fan of the youngster.
“I think he’s got what it takes to be a professional and I’m looking forward to his development,” he said.
