Cumberland FA has announced mid-season promotions for two of their referees.

Ben McDermott has gone from Level 6 to 5 while Gavan Wilmot has moved up from Level 7 to 6.

Scott Taylor, Cumberland FA RDO, says: “Ben’s progress sees him become a Level 5 Senior County Referee.

“He has only recently turned 18, and has worked hard since the end of last season refereeing games throughout the summer and autumn/winter amassing over 40-plus games!

“His progress in Cumberland has been steady away and like other successful referees along our Referee Progression Pathway.

“Ben, a member of our County CORE Group, is now hoping to progress further to Level 4 and beyond.

“I wish him well and will continue to support his refereeing development in Cumberland.”

Gavan Wilmot is one of the newest grassroots referees in Cumberland who has recently progressed successfully along the Referee Progression Pathway during the autumn and winter months.

Taylor said: “Gavan joined us in the summer from Leicestershire & Rutland County FA as a Level 7 and through his refereeing performances and hard work since the beginning of the 2025/26 season has gained Level 6 status.

“I wish him and all our Cumberland FA registered referees a successful remainder of the season.”
