A survey of almost 10,500 vehicles discovered that around 90% of them broke the speed limit.
Following concerns raised about speeding at Red Lonning in Whitehaven, Copeland Police installed a speed indicator device between February 10 and yesterday, February 26.
The total number of vehicles counted was 10,478.
The roads has a speed limit of 20mph. Copeland Police said the average speed recorded was 26.7mph and 88.9% of vehicles were travelling over the limit – with the maximum speed recorded 60mph on February 14.
Peak times for speeding were between 11am and noon and 4pm to 5pm and the worst days for speeding were Saturday and Sunday.
Copeland Police said: “This information is being fed into the Cumbria Road Safety Partnership, and Cumbria police will deploy speed camera in the are at the key times.”
