Carlisle City dented Kendal Town’s play-off hopes by scoring a late equaliser in their Northern League clash at Parkside Road.
Player manager Dan Kirkup grabbed an 82nd minute point-saver for City who have been in poor form since the turn of the year – with a shortage of fixtures not helping.
It was a blow for Kendal who had taken an early lead when Bailey Kenny put them ahead after only four minutes.
But Kendal couldn’t go on from there and although the better side over the first 45 minutes it was an even contest after the break.

Mintcakes boss Matt Flynn admitted a 1-1 draw was probably a fair result and it still keeps them in the hunt for the play-offs.

Kirkup had come on as a substitute and grabbed the leveller which halted a run of poor results in the league and he hopes this will be something they can build on.

Penrith settle for draw
Penrith had suffered from giving away late goals early in the season and the old failing came back to haunt them at Northallerton – in a game they had dominated throughout.
They had to settle for a 2-2 draw after twice going in front and that was the 10th time they have shared the points in Division One this season – along with Birtley Town the most in the competition.
Connor Shields had fired the Bonnyblues ahead after 11 minutes only for Bailey Prudhoe to level just before half-time.
Matty Willimson restored the Penrith lead ten minutes into the second-half but two minutes into added time, and with virtually the last kick of the game, Northallerton levelled.
