After their mid-week setback at Hartlepool, Carlisle United got back into winning mode at Eastleigh.
After a goalless first half United built a 2-0 lead and although the home side pulled one back in stoppage time the Blues held on for three more points.
It kept Mark Hughes’ men in third, trailing the runaway top pair of Rochdale and York and solidly booked for the National League play-offs.
With no goals in the first half Josh Lundstram had gone close for the home side but finished wildly and Regan Linney, wasted a couple of opportunities by firing wide.
Eastleigh’s Jordan Cousins had an opportunity to let one go from the edge of the area but it cleared the bar and it was Carlisle who took the lead after 54 minutes.
Georgie Kelly was able to turn home a cross from Linney at close range and quarter of an hour later United grabbed a second through Stephen Wearne, which looked to have sealed the points.
They did have a late scare when Temi Eweka scored for Eastleigh in the fourth minute of added time but they held on comfortably for a deserved win.
