In a topsy turvy finish, Workington Town earned their first point of the season at Keighley – but then almost lost it at the death.
They had gone ahead 16-14 10 minutes from time only for Matty Beharrell to level with a penalty three minutes from time.
There was still more drama when a Beharrell drop goal attempt in the last few seconds hit the bar and cropped down in play and there was a terrific scramble before play was ended by the final hooter.
They had been level 6-6 at the break when Alex Donaghy’s 8th minute try, converted by Jake Carter, had been cancelled out by Lanskey’s try on 28 minutes which Beharrell converted.
A minute into the second half Flanagan senior got over for a try which Beharrell converted try and then Beharrell added a penalty five minutes later to put the Cougars 14-6 to the good.

Debut-making winger Jake Dickinson celebrated with his first try for Town on 67 minutes and Carter converted to cut the deficit to two points.
In Town’s best spell of the game they scored again on 69 minutes when Ewan Lawther crossed but crucially Carter was unable to convert.

Still leading, with the finish line in sight, Town were pegged back by a Beharrell penalty and then saved from a narrow defeat by the width of the crossbar.
