Carlisle’s Teenage Market is returning to the city centre in March.
Hosted by Cumberland Council, with funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, the market will return in the pedestrianised area of the city centre on Saturday March 28.
It will showcase up to 20 stalls run by young traders aged between eight and 25, alongside a programme of live performances from local young singers, musicians and dancers.
The Teenage Market gives visitors the chance to discover original, locally made products while supporting emerging young entrepreneurs.
It is a national initiative set up to champion the next generation of market traders.
Councillor Anne Quilter, executive member for vibrant and healthy places at Cumberland Council said: “The Teenage Market is about creating a positive, supportive space where young people can test ideas, build confidence and gain real experience of trading and performing in a busy city‑centre environment.
“Bringing these young traders and performers into the heart of Carlisle not only showcases their talent but also helps to create a lively atmosphere that benefits the wider city centre and local economy.”
Young people taking part are using the market as a practical opportunity to develop business skills, build confidence and engage with the local community.
Emily, aged 12, will be trading at the Teenage Market with her business Products by Bear. She said: “I have been making pins and earrings for a while but have struggled to find somewhere to sell them with being so young.
“I have attended the Teenage Market for a while and there have been some amazing stalls from bracelets to baking.
“As much as I loved attending and supporting other young traders I have always wanted to have my own stall.
“I am so happy to be taking part in the Spring Teenage Market selling my pins, earrings and everything else and I look forward to seeing you there.”
The Teenage Market is also part music festival with a full programme of live entertainment throughout the day.
The Carlisle Teenage Market will take place in the city centre on Saturday 28 March, between 10am and 3.30pm. Cash payments are preferred.
