Workington Reds have turned to one of their old boys to help see them over the line to NPL Premier Division safety.
Matty Tymon has been re-signed with seven games of the season left and goes straight into the squad for tomorrow’s crucial game at fellow strugglers Hyde United.
Following the end of Steven Riggs’ season and the early recall of Luke Hunter, it was paramount that Reds added experience to their attacking options.
Tymon joins from Whitby Town where he has figured largely from the bench, but has NPL goals in his locker this season.
Although from the North East, he has worked at Sellafield for a number of years and is based in West Cumbria for four days of the week.
He had started with Whitehaven in their Wearside League days before switching to Workington.
The forward returns with valuable experience at this level, having contributed goals in the NPL this season.
He played at Borough Park in the first game of the current season, coming on as a second half substitute and helping turn the game in Whitby’s favour as they came from behind to win 2-1.
Reds go to Hyde on the back of a seven match unbeaten run – three away draws in a row and four successive home wins – while their opponents haven’t won for four games, three of them defeats.
“Training went well again last night and we are looking forward to the game. Matty is the type of player we needed now that Riggy’s season has ended,” said manager Billy Barr.
