Windscale end up wrong side of score line

Following last week’s victory over Wearside League leaders Leam Rangers, Windscale travelled to Easington in confident mood.

However, after delivering a performance worthy of at least a point, the Atoms subsequently ended up on the wrong end of a 2-0 score line.

The start of the game was delayed slightly due to the late arrival of the referee. However, when play eventually got underway Windscale created two good scoring opportunities.

The first, a close range header from Harry Hodgson cleared the crossbar, followed closely by an effort from Travis Fyfe.  Working his way down the left-hand side into the Easington penalty area, Fyfe’s hasty finish missed the target.

Easington took the lead in the 27th minute. Following pressure on the Atoms defence the ball fell to Harry Morgan who composed himself to slot the ball beyond visiting keeper Levi McAdam.

Windscale came close to regaining parity through Reece Fretwell.

Following some neat interchanges of play in midfield, Fretwell picked up the ball at pace curling it beyond Easington stopper Ciaran Ure.

His effort was unfortunately just too high leaving the hosts ahead 1-0 at the break.

In the second period, Fyfe continued to keep the hosts defence on their toes. Owen Woodburn also delivered some inviting passes through the channels whilst also providing some good defensive work when Easington threatened.

With 18 minutes left to play, Easington scored the decisive goal. The Atoms switched off to an attack down the right wing.

Callum Bell just failed to prevent a ball across the face of goal providing Luke Thompson at the far post with a simple tap in.

The Atoms changed shape to 3-5-2 in an attempt to get back on terms. Despite this enabling them to deliver some promising opportunities, Easington held firm to take the victory.

Windscale now meet 6th placed Barnard Castle under the lights at the Falcon Complex this Wednesday, kick-off is at 7.45pm.

You can hear below what manager Stephen Fawcett thought of the performance:
