Plans for 157 new homes in Carlisle have been given the go-ahead.
Genesis Homes is set start to build The Woodlands, on land opposite the city’s Carleton Clinic in Garlands, later this year.
If it is approved, the company hopes work will start early next year.
The company said the estate will include 20 per cent designated affordable homes and it would refurbish Cumberland House, formerly used by the NHS as offices, as part of its proposals.
Each home will have EV chargers and solar panels as standard.
The scheme also includes public open space and improved footpath connections.
Genesis Homes sand plans for further community engagement would focus on building relationships and supporting local schools, groups and organisations as the development progresses.
The Woodlands will sit alongside the nearby St Cuthbert’s Garden Village proposals.
John Blue, land director at Genesis Homes, said: “The approval of our Reserved Matters Application at The Woodlands is a major step forward for this development in Carlisle.
“We’re focused on delivering homes that work for modern living, while creating a place that people feel part of. From affordable housing and green space to the reuse of Cumberland House, this is about building a community that will last.”
