A careers fair for young people and unemployed adults is set to take place in Barrow.

The Your Next Steps Careers Fair will take place on Tuesday April 28 from 2pm until 6pm in the Town Hall on Duke Street.

It’s a chance for people to meet local employers, apprenticeship providers, training organisations and further education institutions, all under one roof.

The fair is being delivered in partnership with Inspira, Cumbria Careers Hub, and the Department for Work and Pensions, with sponsorship from BAE Systems.

BAE are sponsoring the event to support Inspira’s aim to help young people become fully informed about the range of career pathways available locally.

Inspira said it also comes while local employers are experiencing significant skills shortages and the area continues to have a high number of 18 to 24 year olds not in employment, education or training.

To support both employers and jobseekers, the DWP will be inviting unemployed adults to attend, to give exhibitors a chance to engage with a range of potential candidates.

Julia Winder, area operations manager at Inspira, said: “This year presents another fantastic opportunity for young people and those currently not in employment to meet and build connections with employers and organisations in the local area that interest them.

“Taking this proactive step not only supports individuals exploring their career pathways but also plays an important role in tackling the ongoing challenges around skills gaps and youth unemployment in the region.”

Judith Wilkinson, partnership manager at DWP added: “The Your Next Steps Careers Fair is an important opportunity for both young people and adults in our community to explore the wide range of careers, training routes and apprenticeships available right here in Barrow.

“At the DWP, we see first-hand the difference it makes when individuals can speak directly with employers who are recruiting and organisations who can support them in building their skills and confidence.

“We’re proud to work alongside Inspira, Cumbria Careers Hub and our local partners to help connect jobseekers with real opportunities and events like this play a crucial role in helping people take positive steps towards employment.”

Employers with opportunities for young people in the Barrow area can book a free exhibition stand by emailing [email protected].
