A reckless drone pilot risked a major operation to rescue a seriously injured person in the Lake District.

South Lakes Police said it helped in the multi-agency rescue of the person from the side of a fell in Langdale yesterday, Sunday April 19.

The person was eventually airlifted from the side of the fell by a Coastguard helicopter.

South Lakes Police said: “This rescue effort was severely hampered by the irresponsible flying of a drone in the locality.

“The reckless actions of the drone pilot not only risked the safety of the Coastguard helicopter and crew but also the safety and dignity of the casualty.”

It asked people to use drones in a responsible and legal manner.
