The 557th Penrith parkrun at Frenchfield started with overcast cloudy morning, mostly dry but there were a few spots of rain, so good conditions for running.
It was Eden Runners championships and the club’s green and blue colours were certainly prevalent.
There was a good field of 334 runners, joggers and walkers and 36 volunteers who made the event possible.
Penrith regular Jonny Cox was first across the line in 16.54 with another Penrith regular Andrew Douglas second in 17.27 on his 250th parkrun.
First female was Sally Braithwaite in 21.12 with Kathryn Metcalfe the second female in 21.34.
Of the 334 participants 10 were doing their first ever parkrun, 48 were tackling Penrith parkrun for the first time and 48 got personal best times on the 5k course.
Parkrun would not be able to take place without volunteers.
At Penrith we are fortunate to have many regular volunteers. There are many different volunteer roles, such as marshalling, barcode scanning and time keeping as well as event set-up and post event close down. The day starts with event set up, course check and litter picking.
The run director was David Robertson who is also the volunteer co-ordinator and very much a stalwart at Penrith.
