A bid for 70 new homes near Whitehaven are set to get the go-ahead by planners despite objections from neighbours.
John Swift Homes want to create the development in the Moor Row area.
The site is bounded by the residential development of Summergrove Park to the north; West Lakes Science Park to the south; Summergrove Hall and agricultural land to the west; and, the disused Galemire Quarry, agricultural land and Dalzell Street to the east.
Access to the new development would be via a new junction from Dalzell Street, but objectors say the road is already used as an established rat-run for commuters.
The planning application will be discussed by Cumberland Council’s planning committee next Wednesday, May 27.
It has been recommended that permission should be granted, subject to conditions including that 10 per cent of the homes are designated as affordable.
Twenty-two of the homes would be two-bedroom and 48 would be three-bedroom.
The 8.36 hectare site includes an area of greenfield land, currently used for agricultural grazing purposes and two parcels of land separated and enclosed by mature planting.
Planning permission is already in place for up to 40 self-build homes on the site.
A pavement/cycle link, doubling as an emergency vehicle access, is proposed to Summergrove Park and a pavement link is also proposed to West Lakes Science Park and Summergrove Hall.
There were 15 objections from people with concerns including significant concerns regarding highway safety and traffic impacts.
