Maryport Athletic gained some consolation for losing their Cumberland County League Premier Division title this season to Unisun Athletic.
The two sides met in the final of the Ken Glover Memorial Trophy at the Falcon Complex and it was Maryport who emerged 2-0 winners.
The west Cumbrians didn’t start the game well and were under a fair bit of pressure.
Unisun dominated the possession and had the best chances with Maryport keeper Craig Rule in action to make some important saves.
There was also a close call when Logan Bosward had to make a goal-line clearance.
However, just before the half hour mark a nicely flighted free kick found Bosward at the back stick and he found the far corner with a good finish.
This allowed Maryport to settle and for the first time in the game they began to keep possession effectively.
Logan then doubled the lead after beating two men in mid-field to open a way forward and he then hit a superb 30 yarder into the Unison net.
In the second half neither goalkeeper was really tested as Maryport were content to sit and give the opposition the ball.
The Maryport back four defended their box very well and when they did break out looked dangerous, without seriously testing the Unisun keeper.
In the end they saw it out well to collect the silverware.
