The RFU has approved a two division set-up next season for the Cumbria League.

The top division will operate at level 7 as Counties 1 Cumbria while a second division will be classed as Level 8.

It has been decided that with eight teams in each division they will play each other three times, providing for 21 league games.

This was the preferred option after separate division-based Cup competitions were also considered.

The eight teams contesting Level 7 are Aspatria, Wigton, Hawcoat Park, Carlisle, Cockermouth, Whitehaven, St Benedict’s and Egremont.

The Counties 2 Cumbria will consist of Workington, Ambleside, Windermere, Creighton, Keswick 2nds, Penrith 2nds, Millom and Furness.

Thirteen of those clubs will contest the Cumbria Shield with Aspatria, Wigton and Hawcoat Park included in the Cumbria Cup
