
The County League’s Division One season kicked off early with a Friday night game.
Cleator Moor Celtic Reserves hosted Whitehaven Miners to avoid a clash with Celtic’s first team fixture against St Helens Town in the North West Counties League.
The change appears to have suited Miners most as they ran out winners 5-3 in an entertaining game.
A Lewis Park hat-trick and a brace from Owen Woods sealed the points for Miners, with Celtic responding through Jamie Martin, Daniel Graham and Adam Meagan.
The Premier Division commenced with a full set of fixtures and thee two Development teams, Carlisle City and Workington Reds were involved in a nine-goal thriller.
The City team edged it 5-4 with goals from Mike Heap, Ellis Riley, James Johnstone and Tom Hickey, with Reds also conceding an own goal, giving City the points.
A double from James Bell and strikes from Carl Lightfoot and Tom Houghton made up the Reds tally.
Maryport Athletic made the trip to Carlisle to take on Pirelli, one of the early favourites for the title.
Athletics young outfit gave a battling performance but were unable to quell Pirelli’s attacking force going down 5-1.
Kieron Blair notched a hat trick supported by Kyle Armstrong and Jordan Pritchard Farish with the Athletic’s response coming from Ethan Weir.
There was a cracking game of football served up a at Northbank where the hosts and visitors Cockermouth shared six goals.
Luke Graham initially gave Cockermouth a two- goal lead before Northbank fought back to edge the game in their favour with strikes from Ellis Watson, Ellis Dickinson and Brendan Box-Gill.
Luke Graham decided the outcome with the third goal of his hat trick to ensure the points were shared.
Workington Athletic had home advantage over Aspatria but were unable to prevent the visitors making a winning start to the season in a 3-2 victory.
A brace from Dan Pearson and a single effort from Andrew Trestianu ensured Aspatria took the points. Athletic’s reply came courtesy of Ryan Connelly and Connor Hammell.
The teams could not be divided in the Gosforth v Wigton Harriers fixture with the game ending 1-1.
The home team’s goal came from Cameron Bowness, with Wigton’s Sam Irving ensuring parity.
The only other Division One game of the week-end between Mirehouse and UniSun Athletic also ended 1-1.
Mirehouse scored through Cyran Corlett, with Luke Riddick hitting the net for UniSun. The Mirehouse cause was not helped when Kyran Smith was dismissed.
