Jim Mitchell has stepped down with immediate effect as a board member of Carlisle United.
He was the Carlisle United Official Supporters’ Club director representative on the board of 1921 and has stepped down due to health issues.
He was appointed in October 2016 as the club restructured its governance and operations.
Chief executive Nigel Clibbens said: “We are sad to see Jim step down and we wish him well.
“He joined the board at a difficult time, shortly after I came to the club, as we set about rebuilding relations with the trust and changing the club structure.
“Jim made a valuable contribution inside the club. He always put the club first and always voiced the interests, views and wishes of the fans strongly. He was challenging, critical at times, but also supportive and balanced in his approach. We wish him well for the future.”
Mitchell said: “I have been a United fan for 70 years and I never dreamed that I would have been on the board of directors.
“I have enjoyed it very much and I am sad that I have to leave the board, but I will continue to support from the stands.”
CUOSC will nominate a new board member to join the 1921 board alongside Clibbens, finance director Suzanne Kidd and director of external affairs John Nixon.
