Three popular Lake District pubs are undergoing major refurbishments.

The Wateredge Inn and the Waterhead Inn in Ambleside and The Angel Inn in Bowness will have new bars and restaurants, improved accessibility and accommodation will be improved.

Owner The Inn Collection Group began the third revamp on Monday as contractors moved into The Waterhead Inn, with national architects GSSArchitecture appointed as architects and principal designers of the schemes.

The Newcastle-based pub company said: “Work will retain the character of the inns and be sympathetic to their surroundings, providing these historic buildings with a sustainable long-term future whilst keeping and reinstating their original features.”

The group owns 10 sites across the Lake District and is also converting the former Ravensworth Hotel in Windermere into staff accommodation for employees at its Cumbrian properties.

Louise Stewart, property director at The Inn Collection Group, said: “We are delighted to be working with GSSArchitecture and bringing their expertise to the refurbishment of these much-loved inns.

“They are iconic sites that we are excited to have brought into group and we are confident guests will love them once they are ready to welcome people back through their doors.

“It is important to us that our renovations bring our own identity but at the same time are respectful of these iconic properties heritage and working with GSSArchitecture will help achieve that at these inns.”
