A driver who switched number plates between his two vehicles to mask that one had no valid MOT has been handed a fine in court.
Gary Paul Faunch, 53, admitted two offences when he appeared before magistrates in Carlisle today.
These were the fraudulent use of a registration mark and also the use of a vehicle without a valid test certificate.
Prosecutor Graeme Tindall told the court Faunch had, simply, put registration plates from one of his vehicles on to another in a bid to avoid detection for not having a valid test certificate.
His offending came to light when police stopped a vehicle driven by Faunch at Newby West roundabout on the outskirts of Carlisle on August 10.
His solicitor asked magistrates to bear in mind that Faunch was a man of limited means who had co-operated with everybody and everything in relation to the case.
In addition, Faunch had paid out almost £500 to secure the release of his vehicle after it was impounded by police following the stop. The vehicle has since passed an MoT test.
Faunch, of Mealsgate, near Aspatria, was fined £100 and ordered to pay costs and a mandatory victim surcharge.
