Thursday night saw the last of the trails at Calebreak on what was a warm and humid night for everyone, including the dogs.

The senior hounds got proceedings underway with 12 taking part and as predicted Winterfell was running and looking for another win to go further clear at the top of the Championship table.

The table leader had finished third at Calebreak on his last run and was up against the in-form Foxparke Beep Beep who had won over the course on August 24.

As they showed on the finish it wasn’t to be Winterfell’s night as Foxparke Beep Beep came with a big lead.

She was followed eventually by Ron who finished in second for Tom and Sarah Bell and then Eagle Star who finished in third for Linda Neale, Mark, Josh and Georgina Bryden.

Unfortunately no other hounds finished as it became apparent that they had made a mistake on the trail.

Next to slip were the open pups with a field of 10 with table topper Rodney Raider looking to extend his lead in the championship table with many of his competitors having ran the night before at Cold Fell.

However, as they came back onto the finish, it was a cracking race with a number of hounds in with a chance. In the end it proved to be a surprise win for Foxparke Fair Lady

They had a treble at the Loweswater Show at the weekend and a double at at Calebreak with their dogs on fire at the moment.

Croft Lass for Carol and Stanley Jackson was hard on the heels of Foxparke Fair Lady but just couldn’t get past her and finished well in second place, with Rodney Raider having to settle for third place.

Paul Airey and Joanne Hodgson’s Artisan was close up in fourth place with the Foxparke team bagging another ticket with Honk Honk in firth place and then finally Willie and Daphne Mark’s Sportsman got the sixth ticket.

All six hounds finished within four or five yards of each other so it was quite an exciting finish.

The last race of the night was for the open restricted grade with 16 runners. It was an open race but as the hounds returned and came up the finish it was the Dearham kennel of Joe Abram and Nicole McMaster that was in front with Sarah Jane (aka Pamela) who is turning out to be a decent little hound.

Sarah Jane was followed home closely by Carol and Stanley Jackson’s other hound Clementine, so it was seconditis for the Jackson’s but they would be pleased with the two tickets.

Tremor and Trinket finished in third and fourth place for Willie and Gillian Todd, with Christopher Henderson and Frank Dockray’s Shine On in fifth place, with the final ticket of the night going to Monsoon for Christine Brownlee.

Action moves to Saturday with the Eskdale and Ennerdale Puppy Show which stages a five card meeting followed by trails at Shap on Sunday. The first hounds are slipped on Saturday at 2pm.
