Lindal Cricket Club will be playing their cricket in the Westmorland League next season.
A meeting of members last night voted to leave the Cumbria League after being already accepted by the Westmorland League First Division.
Their second team will be playing in the Westmorland League’s Third Division.
The club had been disillusioned by a league decision over the use of a Kendal and Cumbria player Freddie Fallows by Haverigg for a crucial relegation battle.
In the end Lindal finished bottom of the Cumbria League’s Premier Division and were relegated.
It seems to have been the final straw for Lindal who say they have had other issues with the League in recent years.
Founded in 1884, Lindal Moor Cricket Club has been designated a Focus Club by the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB).
It is a cricket development and networking hub, particularly for women’s and girl’s cricket within the wider area.
The club achieved Clubmark Accreditation by demonstrating that the best practices are employed to develop and deliver high quality community cricket in a safe, effective and child-friendly manner.
The Lindal club issued a short statement on their decision to quit the Cumbria League and join the Westmorland League.
It said: “Following Friday night’s EGM the club members have decided that our future lies in the Westmorland League.
“Whilst we leave behind many friends and memories in the Cumbria League events over the years, which culminated in 2023, have led to this decision.
“We are looking forward to being part of the historically excellently run competition that is the Westmorland League going forward.
“Good luck to all clubs in both Leagues – get the games on.”
Lindal will play in the First Division of the Westmorland League and their seconds will contest Division Three.
The Cumbria League is expected to issue its own statement during the week.
