There might have been no points to pick up on the field but Carlisle owner Tom Piatak says he’s had a fantastic trip to Cumbria.
He was speaking to the official United website on the eve of his departure back to the States.
“The trip has been fantastic. Patty and I have been here for two-and-a-half weeks, spending a lot of time getting to know the staff, which has been very important and doing some things behind-the-scenes.
“The performance on the pitch has not been there, but I was really looking forward to the game at Burton because I thought that was going to be the breakthrough, so it was crushing for us.
“I was really looking for a result at Burton and I think the team was ready.
““Patty and I are flying back to the States but Jenna [Piatak] and Nick [DeMasi] will still be here. I have all the confidence in Jenna and Nick, they’ll be here Saturday for the game against Cambridge, which should be a fantastic match.
“We wish we could be here, and actually thought about cancelling the flight and rescheduling, but we do need to be back over there for a little bit.
“I just told Paul [Simpson], this is a shame, but Patty and I are just a flight away and we can be here, if needed for any reason,” he said before flying home.
Carlisle remain at the foot of League One, six points behind the team immediately above them – Fleetwood Town – and 12 points from safety.
