Whitehaven’s win saw Jonty Gorley’s team confirm their Championship status (Ben Challis)

Whitehaven coach Jonty Gorley has named his squad to face Dewsbury Rams on Sunday at the Ortus REC.

It’s still only 18-strong, reflecting Whitehaven’s injury problems, even though they have added two new loan signings to the squad this week.

Latest casualty was top try scorer Jake Maizen who suffered a damaged hamstring in last week’s home defeat by Bradford Bulls.

Loanees Gideon Boafo (Broncos) and Noah High (Warrington) are named in the squad to take on the Rams who sit at the bottom of the table with only one win in 11 games.

Whitehaven are among five teams sitting above the Rams as it really is developing into a dog-eat-dog situation at the lower end of the table.

The Rams have their dual registration players in for the trip to West Cumbria – Jack Billington, Jack Bibby and Kieran Rush.

Prop forward Bibby has had several loan spells when he was at Wigan, and also at Huddersfield – including a one match appearance for Workington Town. Fellow forward Billington has been on loan with Barrow.

The Whitehaven squad is: Ainley, Boafo, Carter, Castle, Corkill, J Doran, Evans, Gebbie, Graham, Hanneghan, High, Holliday, King, McCarron, Newton, Romeo, Teare, Worthington.

The Dewsbury squad is: Restall, O’Connor, Carr, Turner, Beckett, Hookem, Dixon, Graham, Garside, Collinson, Morris, Walker, Corion, Davies, Walker, Dawson, Hird, Billington, Bibby, Rush, Butterworth.
