Carlisle City were beaten 3-0 last night by Newcastle Blue Star in their latest Northern League Division one game.
But this was a much better display from City than last week when they had been hammered 6-0 at Shildon.
Manager Dan Kirkup took a strong squad over to the North East and they played particularly well in the first-half.
It looked as though it was going to be scoreless at half-time but Chris Reid gave the home side the lead on 43 minutes.
The Cumbrians were not in the game as much in the second-half when goals from Matty Dobson, on the hour, and Rio Joisce (85) wrapped up the points for Blue Star.
Kirkup believes that Blue Star are very well equipped to challenge strongly for a play-off place and look to be a club on the rise.
That win lifted Blue Star into fourth place in the table while City are in 14th, and contemplating another awkward trip to North Shields for a Friday night game.
