Workington Town have named the eight trialists who will be bidding to earn contracts at the Fibrus Community Stadium.
Probably the most interesting is Liam Aspin, who has been with the Nambour Crushers in 2024 as their Under-19s coach.
A half-back, he had spent five years – from ages 13 to 18 – with the Warrington Wolves and then played for his local side Saddleworth Rangers.
He had a short spell in League One with North Wales Crusaders in 2022 before a season in France and then moved over to Australia playing for the Coogee Dolphins/ Nambour Crushers.
Also looking to get himself a run with Town is Reece Stanton, a former prop forward with the NCL side Wigan St Jude’s who spent time in the Wigan Academy and last season was with Leigh Leopards reserves.
The rest are players from the community game in the west and south of the county.
An elusive outside back Finlay Goodings is with Hindpool while prop Ross Bird plays for Dalton and both are looking forward to the chance to prove their abilities with Town.
From West Cumbria are Fraser McNee, an Egremont back who has also played rugby union with Aspatria; Tyce Walmsley, a youngster who has played with Lowca and Hensingham age group sides; Spencer Fulton, a strong-running back with Cockermouth Titans and Cockermouth Wasps rugby union and Brad Long, a prop forward with Egremont.
